June 2019
The ENVISION team explored the landscapes of the Kromme Rijn and Utrechtse Heuvelrug regions, the Netherlands, in June 2019 to plan their next stages of research on inclusive conservation. The team met with local stakeholders, a mill owner and forest manager, to understand their perspectives on competing visions for landscape management. They also discussed current management activities, including balancing timber harvesting with peatland restoration, and the challenges of financing stakeholder dialogues.
The project team also discussed piloting interactive arts-based interview techniques with tourists in the Netherlands to understand perceptions of multi-functional landscapes, and pairing this information with trade-off analyses and optimization modeling in order to balance competing visions of landscape management.
